Assistant Library Branch Manager, Hessen Cassel Branch, Fort Wayne, IN

Description:

The Hessen Cassel Library is looking for an Assistant Library Branch Manager to work full-time, 40 hours a week. A mix of day, evening and weekend hours will be required.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists with the plans, organization, administration, review and evaluation of branch staff.
  • Assists with the selection of staff; trains staff and provides for their professional development.
  • Contributes to the overall quality of the branch’s service provision by developing and coordinating work teams and by reviewing, recommending and implementing improved policies, procedures and services in relation to the changing needs of the community.
  •  Assists with the development and implementation of training programs for staff on customer services.
  •  Responds to and resolves customer inquiries; explains policies and procedures; provides customer service, collection assistance, technical assistance and reference assistance.
  •  Assists with the development, implementation and administration of plans for collection layout and space requirements; develops book displays in accordance with established marketing standards; oversees the creation of displays relevant to program and promotion requirements.
  •  Assists with the accounting of funds from sale of library materials and the collection of fees and fines; oversees reconciliation of cash receipts, preparation of bank deposits.
  • Collaborates with ACPL branches/departments, community engagement and community groups on the development and implementation of programming and events in the branch and in the community; evaluates effectiveness of programs; markets programs; monitors community trends and service needs.
  • Maintains awareness of current library trends and developments through professional reading, conference attendance and organization participation.
  • Performs professional librarian duties as assigned.
  • Serves as “Person-in-Charge” as required.
  •  Represents ACPL and the branch in meetings with representatives of professional, business and community organizations.
  • Promotes and supports the overall mission of the Library by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science required.
  • 2 years of professional librarian experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Valid Indiana driver’s license is required. 
  • State of Indiana Public Librarian Certification.

Compensation:
