The Hesburgh Libraries at the University of Notre Dame seek a client-focused, collaborative, resourceful, and energetic professional to serve as Business Librarian in a fast-paced, continually evolving research and teaching environment. The successful candidate will serve as a liaison to programs and departments in the highly ranked Mendoza College of Business and related interdisciplinary centers and institutes of the University. Working alongside a Business Librarian and Branch Coordinator in the Thomas Mahaffey, Jr. Business Library and team members in the Hesburgh Libraries’ Navari Family Center for Digital Scholarship (CDS), this librarian will deliver a suite of resources and services needed for the successful teaching, research, and learning of highly-engaged faculty, students, and staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide timely and advanced consultation services to scholars of all levels, supporting their discovery, effective use, and management of a wide array of business-relevant text and numeric data.
  • Share knowledge and subject expertise with business students, faculty, and members of the campus community through formal and informal instruction sessions with a focus on the content and application of business-specific resources, evaluation of information sources, and research ethics.
  • Actively cultivate partnerships and productive relationships with Mendoza College of Business faculty, students, and staff, and collaborate with other subject librarians on relevant University interdisciplinary programs such as ESTEEM, and with non-academic units such as The Career Center.
  • Assist in managing the acquisition funds allocated to support the business collections, ensuring those collections support the teaching and research priorities of Mendoza’s academic departments, related centers, and institutes.
  • Create user-focused guides to library resources that support academic output, assignments, and advanced research.
  • Collaborate with the Hesburgh Libraries’ Collection Strategy and Acquisitions Program to build relationships with vendors for improved customer service and communications of existing and new data products, services, and tools.
  • Collaborate with CDS team members to support current and future institutional-wide digital scholarship efforts and initiatives at all stages of development.
  • Help students and faculty understand the lifecycle of research data and methods for ethically and strategically creating, cleaning, curating, storing, and reusing data.
  • Develop professionally as a member of the Library Faculty along three dimensions: professional service, contribution to the library profession, and University and community service. Serve on Hesburgh Libraries committees, task forces, and teams as appropriate.

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • A Master’s degree from an American Library Association-accredited library school or equivalent degree, or an advanced degree in a field related to business.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, search, and instruct researchers in the use of business-specific information resources.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the desire to work collaboratively with a diverse population.

Preferred Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to provide high quality, client-focused services, preferably in an academic library setting.
  • Experience with finding and using financial, economic, or other numeric data.
  • Undergraduate and/or advanced degree in business or a related subject.
  • Knowledge of specialized information in all formats used in the field of business.
  • Experience supporting users with specialized databases such as Bloomberg, Datastream, and WRDS as well as open resources to help users carry out market, industry, and product research.
  • Strong interest in or experience with teaching, and the desire to learn new techniques to foster learning in a library setting.
  • Knowledge of data management and data archiving procedures.

Salary and Benefits:

Appointment salary and rank are competitive, commensurate with experience and qualifications.  The Business Librarian is a non-tenure track member of the Library Faculty.
