Entrepreneurship Librarian, San Jose State University, San Jose, CA

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library seeks a creative, student-oriented librarian to provide leadership in the area of business librarianship. The Entrepreneurship Librarian will collaborate with librarians, teaching faculty, and campus administrators and staff on the development of innovative services and support for instruction and research in the College of Business. This is a newly created, 12-month tenure-track faculty position. As a faculty member, the candidate will engage in library and university governance and scholarship as required for tenure and promotion.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as library liaison to the School of Global Innovation and Leadership and actively develop professional relationships with teaching faculty, staff, and students within this and other assigned areas.

  • Develop tutorials, LibGuides, and other online learning objects to support entrepreneurship research and practice.

  • Provide specialized reference and research consultations in assigned subject areas in addition to providing general reference services to campus library users.

  • Deliver information literacy instruction in the classroom, in online environments, and through faculty partnerships.

  • Ensure curriculum-aligned collection development relating to entrepreneurship.

  • Work closely with business and engineering faculty, along with other entrepreneurship crossover opportunities, to support campus efforts in the areas of innovation and entrepreneurship

  • Participate in library governance, professional development activities, and university service. This may also include serving on and representing the library on joint (San José Public Library and SJSU), campus, and system-wide committees and/or task forces.

  • Build a record of progressive scholarly and professional achievement to fulfill the University requirements for retention, tenure, and promotion.

  • Candidate must demonstrate awareness and experience understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation – through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent.

  • Evidence of ability to engage in the research, scholarship, and creative activities required to achieve promotion and tenure.

  • Experience and/or coursework in collection development, reference services, and information literacy instruction.

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree or coursework in a business-related field or equivalent work experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with librarians, staff, teaching faculty, and students in a rapidly changing information environment.

  • Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience, to provide user-centered services and programs.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to handle multiple projects and redefine priorities in a rapidly shifting environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, design, and implement innovative projects, services, and community outreach programs.

  • Familiarity with disciplinary databases such as Business Source Complete, Mergent Online, Statista, and ScienceDirect.

  • Familiarity with issues and trends in entrepreneurship.
