Call for Registration: 52nd Annual Council on Botanical and Horticultural Libraries

The 52nd annual meeting of the Council on Botanical and Horticultural Libraries, Inc. (CBHL) will be held in Washington, DC, May 19-22, 2020. The meeting, “What’s Next: the 21st Century Botanical and Horticultural Library,” will be hosted by the Smithsonian Institution and the National Agricultural Library.

 

Along with the rich resources of the host institutions, attendees will have the opportunity to visit area museums, libraries, gardens, and exhibits. At this meeting, keynote speaker, W. John Kress, will discuss the complexity of nature and botanical libraries in the Anthropocene. Noted author Peter Hatch will explore the role of garden books in the restoration of Thomas Jefferson’s fruit and vegetable gardens at Monticello. In addition, member presentations will explore current and future changes, challenges, and opportunities. Strategies will be shared on how botanical and horticultural libraries can flourish in the future.

 

Additional highlights will include a post-conference tour to Oak Spring Garden Foundation in Upperville, Virginia, the former home, garden, and library of Rachel “Bunny” Mellon.
