Immersive Media Computing REU, Georgia State University, Atlanta, GA

Summary

The Department of Computer Science and Creative Media Industries Institute at Georgia State University host the NSF REU Site: 8-week Summer Research for Undergraduates in Immersive Media Computing for 10 students. Each REU participant will work with faculty advisors, industry advisors, graduate student mentors, and other undergraduate students to carry out a research project in areas such as VR/AR, 360-degree video, image processing, video streaming, image analysis, computer vision, HCI, and parallel computing, etc. The REU students will have access to state-of-the-art VR/AR lab, WorldViz VR/AR CAVE, 4DViews volumetric capture lab, etc. Tutorials, research talks, and programming workshops will be held to guide the students. The REU students will have the opportunity to submit and present their work at academic conferences. We particularly encourage underrepresented students (such as minorities and women) to apply. Atlanta is a modern city with rich traditions. Major attractions include World of Coca-Cola, Georgia Aquarium, Centennial Olympic Park, Center for Civil and Human Rights, CNN, Mercedes Benz Stadium, College Football Hall of Fame, the Margaret Mitchell House, etc. Most of the attractions are close to Georgia State University campus.

Eligibility

All applicants must be:

1. US citizen or permanent resident of the United States 

2. A full-time undergraduate student in STEM fields. 

Financial Support 

  • 8-week Stipend: $4,800

  • Meal allowance: $1,350

  • Travel allowance: $500

  • Free on-campus university housing

 

  • Early Application Date: March 15, 2020 

  • Final Application Deadline: April 26, 2020

  • Application review will start on March 16 and notification will be sent out after April 1 on a rolling basis. After the early application date, application will still be accepted until April 26 if positions are available. Preference will be given to early applicants.

  • Program Date: June 15 – August 8, 2020
