Student Worker, Student Services Center, Simmons GSLIS, Boston MA

The Student Assistant for the Student Services Center (SSC) plays a critical role in providing outstanding customer service to GSLIS students, faculty, and staff.

Duties include: staffing the SSC desk (answering student/ faculty/questions and comments in person, by phone and via email); filing, data entry, and special projects as assigned. This position may also provide clerical/administrative support to the Assistant Dean for Student Services. The Student Assistant plays a significant role in the support of and preparation for “Orientation Day”, an event held each semester for new students. Interested applicants should be aware of the possible need for additional work hours preceding Orientation Day.

Qualifications: applicants must be a GSLIS graduate student with at least one semester of completed coursework. Additionally, students must have strong organization and communication skills, and demonstrated customer service experience. Intermediate skill level in Excel and Word are strongly recommended; experience with mail merges and database management is highly desirable. Previous work experience in an office environment is strongly preferred.

The Student Assistant routinely works with confidential and sensitive student records and therefore, must be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement upon hire.

NOTE –

GSLIS students *not* enrolled for SUMMER 2012, but who will be returning for FALL 2012 *are* eligible to apply for this position and can work during the Summer, as well as continue to work between the end of the SUMMER 2013 semester and the beginning of the FALL 2013 semester. Possibility of additional hours during the summer for vacation coverage.

Work Schedule: to be arranged

Hours per Week: 10-12

Wage/Salary: $12.0

Employment Start Date: August 1,2013

Employment End Date: June 30, 2014 (possibility for renewal beyond this date)
